From planning parties and dinners, buying Christmas gifts for women, spouses, the kids and all the people on our lists to decorating for the holidays can be become overwhelming and too much to take.  Decorating our homes, both inside and out can be one of the more stressful endeavors.  In reality, most everyone loves the idea of an elegantly decorated home for the holidays but unless you have some kind of a background or training this can be a difficult endeavor.  The tips below will provide you with easy and simple decor ideas that can turn your home into an elegant holiday wonderland.

Themes and Using The Proper Colors
Elegance often means unity.  This is where many people make mistakes when decorating their homes for Christmas.  Some of the more common mistakes include, using too many colors and not staying with a theme, which in turn creates a much too busy decor that is distracting and not pleasing to the eye.

One of the most important aspects of elegant holiday decor is to choose colors that not only work well together but colors that are also warm and elegant.  A good example of this is using red and green for the color scheme.  While these colors are traditional for Christmas when used together they do not exactly a project an air of elegance. The best choices for colors for elegant Christmas decor will be gold, white or gold and white together.  Another option is to do winter wonderland, which will entail white and silver as the primary color choices.  While some may doubt that white could be the optimal color for Christmas decor when used properly it can really create some amazing results.

Ideas For Elegant Decor
1. One great idea is to use white luminary candles along the walkway outside of your front door and place them in such a way that they lead up to your front steps or porch.  Elegant lighting usually entails smaller and less dramatic lights, simple ones that create a shimmering glow.

2. The small traditional white Christmas lights always have a more elegant look than other big light choices, this is especially important for the Christmas tree.  Use white lights in abundance all around your Christmas tree.

3. Instead of using Poinsettias as your flower decoration use white roses and place them in elegant vases all throughout the house, there are many stores that sell specially decorated vases for Christmas.  These can be etched in special goal designs which will look gorgeous in a gold and white theme with the white roses.  Another option is to use gold ribbon and tie in elegant bowl and the middle of the vase.

4. To make a beautiful table centerpiece place white pillar candles on a mirror base, both of these can be bought at the craft store.  Gold ribbon or even gold painted pine cones can be placed around the base of the candle.

5. Decorate the corners of the rooms in your home with wrapped gifts.  Use the same colors that you chose for your theme, for example, gifts wrapped in gold paper and tied with white ribbon. Use different size boxes and place the larger ones at the bottom.

6. Take a collection of Christmas balls either in white, gold or both and place them in a large heavy crystal or glass bowl and place them in the center of your coffee table.
Create mini versions of this for the guest bathrooms.  Also, place mini versions of the gold or white candles with ribbon bases that you used in other places in the home, and place these in the bathroom as well, but this time choose scented candles. If you are going to use guest towels in the bathroom for parties then choose a design that compliments your colors.

7. For the Christmas wreath on your front door, use gold painted pine cones and weave them into the wreath. You can purchase very basic wreaths at craft stores and decorate them yourselves.  If you are using gold and white colors for your decor then you can use a little fake snow to add white to the wreath and the use gold pine cones or gold ribbon to tie in the other color.
